Planning advice, excursion comparisons and real prices from the licensed Bávaro guides who run the tours every day — so you know what to book before you land.

Excursion guides by activity

Each guide covers prices, duration, pick-up and who the tour suits. Looking for a full itinerary instead? Read our pillar guide to things to do in Punta Cana.

Drive a buggy or ATV through the countryside

The single most booked activity in Punta Cana. Half a day of red-dirt trails, a freshwater Taíno cave and Macao Beach, from $45 with hotel pick-up.

ATV & buggy trails

Sail a catamaran with snorkeling and the natural pool

Three hours on the Bávaro reef with open bar, music and a stop at the waist-deep sandbar. The classic sea day for couples and groups.

Catamaran day

Spend a morning at Macao Beach

The only wild, non-resort beach on the coast: surf school, fried fish shacks and cliffs. Best visited before noon, when the swell is calmer.

Macao Beach tour

Swim inside a Taíno cave

Freshwater caves near Macao stay at about 24°C all year and are the best way to cool down mid-tour, even on a rainy afternoon.

Cave swim tour

Fly the Anamuya zipline circuit

Twelve cables over the mountains behind Punta Cana — the highest-adrenaline land activity in the area and a good rain-day backup.

Zipline circuit

Ride horses along the coast

A slow, family-friendly option that works for all ages and pairs well with a buggy morning if you want a full day out.

Horseback riding

Eat Dominican, not buffet

Sancocho, mofongo and fresh fish in El Cortecito or Friusa cost a fraction of a resort à-la-carte and taste like the real thing.

See all excursions

Book a full day that mixes land and sea

If you only have one free day, the buggy + Dominican lunch + catamaran combo covers the countryside and the reef in one trip.

Planning and booking questions we get every week

How far in advance should I book a Punta Cana excursion?

Three to seven days ahead is enough in low season, and two weeks in December to April when buggy and catamaran departures sell out. Because cancellation is free up to 24 hours before, booking early costs you nothing.

Is it cheaper to book direct instead of at the resort tour desk?

Yes. Booking direct with the operator is normally 25-40% cheaper than the hotel tour desk, because there is no resort commission added on top of the same tour.

Do excursions include hotel pick-up from my resort?

Round-trip pick-up is included at no extra cost from hotels, resorts, villas and Airbnbs in Bavaro, Punta Cana, Cap Cana, Uvero Alto and Macao. Pick-up starts around 35 minutes before departure.

What happens if it rains on the day of my tour?

Most Punta Cana rain is a short afternoon shower and tours run as normal. If conditions are genuinely unsafe we move you to another date or refund you in full.
