December–April is dry season and peak season. May, June and November offer 80% of the sun at 50% of the price. Hurricane season peaks August–October but most days are still sunny.
Getting there & around
Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is served by direct flights from most major US, Canadian and European cities. Most hotels offer airport transfers; otherwise pre-booked shuttles cost $25–45 per person.
Currency & payments
Dominican Peso (DOP) is local; US dollars are accepted almost everywhere. Tip in dollars when possible. Cards work in resorts and major tours; carry small bills for street vendors and tips.
Language
Spanish. In tourist zones English is widely spoken; learning gracias, por favor and hola goes a long way.
Is Punta Cana safe?
Yes — the tourist corridor (Bávaro / Cap Cana / Uvero Alto) is one of the safest areas in the Caribbean. Use common sense, book tours through licensed operators and don't flash valuables.

Local tips
Book excursions directly online instead of through hotel lobbies — the same tour is often 30–40% cheaper. Bring cash for the $10 tourist card (now usually included in flights). Drink bottled water.
