Here are seven practical tips that keep it that way.
1. Choose a licensed operator
Not every tour desk on the beach works with licensed providers. A legitimate operator has registered vehicles, insurance, certified guides and established safety protocols. You can usually tell by the booking process: clear terms, real contact details and a cancellation policy. If the price seems far below the market rate, ask what is being skipped.
2. Wear the helmet
Helmets are mandatory on our tours and should be mandatory everywhere. Make sure yours fits snugly and the strap is fastened. Do not remove it while the convoy is moving, even for photos. Passengers should keep limbs inside the vehicle at all times.
3. Listen to the pre-tour briefing
The briefing covers brakes, steering, hand signals, distance rules and what to do if you stall. It takes less than 10 minutes but prevents 90% of the minor incidents we see. If you do not understand something, ask before you start the engine.
4. Keep a safe distance
Dust reduces visibility and sudden stops happen on rough trails. Stay at least one buggy-length behind the vehicle in front of you. Overtaking is only allowed when the guide signals it. Tailgating is the fastest way to turn a fun trail into a fender-bender.
5. Know your route and terrain
The standard Macao route includes dirt roads, rocky sections, shallow water crossings and open beach. Conditions change after rain. Drive at the speed the guide sets for each section. If you are unsure, slow down. The buggies are stable, but they are not race cars.
6. Do not drink before driving
This sounds obvious, but resort open bars start early. If you are driving a buggy, skip the alcohol until after the tour. Passengers can enjoy a drink at the beach stop, but the driver needs full concentration. We reserve the right to refuse an intoxicated driver.
7. Check insurance and cancellation terms

Kids can ride as passengers with an adult. We recommend a minimum age of about four to five years old, depending on height and helmet fit. Drivers must be 18 or older with a valid ID.
